Cameron Tandy joined Accenture in 1999 after completing a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. His focus has been in the resources sector, with notable clients including mining houses, power utilities, oil and chemicals companies and municipalities here and abroad. In 2007-8, he took a sabbatical from Accenture to complete a Master of Business Administration at the Wits Business School.
On a project for a large South African municipality, he was responsible for the custom rates billing solution, a first for using SAP to perform this function for a municipality. Another first was leading the team that implemented the first South African implementation of the contract management software, Emptoris.
He is currently the functional solutions lead for a very large SAP transformation project for an electricity utility. “Businesses and government agencies around the world are constantly looking for ways to harness new technologies to increase efficiencies, reduce costs and drive growth,” he observes. “Accenture is well placed to help them do this as we combine consulting and outsourcing services underpinned by deep technology skills—I’d say that’s really the core of our value proposition. A national utility is the foundation of the regional economy, so contributing to its success is something that is very important and deeply rewarding.”
Married with two very young daughters, Tandy’s spare time is primarily committed to family. He and his wife enjoy game viewing and birding in the bush, a passion complemented by his hobby of photography. When he can, he also enjoys scuba diving, and has recently taken up cooking.
