The award is one of ForgeAhead’s annual African ICT Achiever Awards, a programme endorsed by Nepad (the New Partnership for Africa’s Development).
Initiated in 1998, the African ICT Achiever awards aim to recognise individuals and companies that are leading the drive to make the African century a reality.

The nomination criteria for the top ICT multinational in Africa looked at how companies have empowered the local people where they have a presence, including skills transfer to employees as well as bridging the digital divide.
Other criteria included proven business excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship and the way in which companies continue to leverage information and communication technologies to make a difference across the continent. The judges also considered the impact of corporate social responsibility initiatives.
