Accenture is helping the industry prepare for restructuring that will benefit South African consumers by offering them low equitable tariffs, improved quality of supply, electrification, enhanced employee career opportunities and distributor financial viability.
Some significant achievements resulting from our collaboration:
- In 2005, systems implemented by Accenture manage customer accounting and relationships for 50 percent of South Africa's electricity customers and this effectively generates 80 percent of Eskom's revenue.
- Sixty percent of the electricity industry's fixed assets in South Africa are managed by systems Accenture implemented.
- Accenture also provides payroll and human resources information for 70 percent of South Africa's electricity industry employees.
- In the last 10 years, using Accenture implemented processes and systems as a base, Eskom obtained more than R11 billion in cumulative productivity savings. In its most recent financial year, this prior investment enabled capacity utilisation productivity gains of R551 million and pure efficiency gains (at constant capacity utilisation) of R244 million.
- Also during this 10-year period, Eskom reduced the real price of electricity in South Africa by 15 percent, whilst improving debt/equity ratio from 1,25 to 0,09. It also electrified more than two million homes, thereby improving the lives of over 12 million people and it supported the electrification of clinics and schools with contributions of R50 million per annum. Its managed procurement policy also greatly benefited small and medium enterprises.
