For many South African businesses, geographic expansion is an attractive way to penetrate new markets and deliver the growth they seek on the journey to high performance.
There are notable advantages to participation in the already large African market: it is set to grow strongly, it is close by, and the cultural and infrastructural similarities make expansion within the continent less daunting than it would be for businesses from other parts of the world.
But be warned—South African companies must compete with global players and incumbents for a slice of the pie.
