An important part of my job is ensuring that Accenture stays relevant to our clients. Most of my time in the marketplace is spent meeting with the CEOs of our clients so I can gain a better understanding of their opportunities and challenges, and of how we at Accenture can help them achieve high performance.
Given this focus, I'm often asked—both by clients and our own employees—about the CEO agenda. People want to know what's on the to-do lists of today's executives, and what keeps them up at night.
|
A particularly hot topic in my conversations with CEOs: How can an enterprise retain, motivate and enhance its workforce in an increasingly competitive market for talent? This question also happens to be the one that keeps me awake at night. Accenture's men and women are our heart and soul. They carry our company on their backs every day by providing exceptional client service, and it's my job to keep them educated, energized and inspired.
Another topic that ranks high on the CEO agenda is differentiation. Success is about staying ahead of the market—looking around the corners at what will set an organization apart from its competitors, not just today but tomorrow as well. Success is about identifying business outcomes that take performance to the next level—and then delivering them. This means being bold with innovation and always staying on the lookout for the best new ideas that will get results.
Of course, at the end of the day, it all comes down to execution. CEOs face an evolving list of concerns, but one thing is constant—they will always be measured by their ability to execute.
The lineup of stories in this issue of Outlook illustrates the great range of challenges that find their way to the CEO's desk, calendar and e-mail on any given day—from providing investors with an accurate view of a company's financial health…to retaining knowledge…to managing information in a world of unlimited data. It also features our latest thinking on how to address those issues.
In reading these articles, I hope you will find some relevant ideas to help you tackle what's most important to your organization.
