A few months ago, Accenture announced the launch of a comprehensive research program focused on high-performance business. Achieving high performance is a journey for any organization, whether in business or government. Our commitment to clients is to help them accelerate this journey and realize their fullest potential.

Accenture’s 83,000 people around the world bring this commitment to high performance to our clients every day. We are equipping our employees with the knowledge, skills and tools they need to help clients unleash innovations that deliver superior results. This means bringing the very best of Accenture to clients through consulting, technology, outsourcing or a mix of these services.

We are pleased with the positive feedback we continue to receive on the overall initiative. High performance is a common theme in my meetings with client executives, who tell me this concept is quickly becoming more than an aspiration—it is a requirement in an environment where leaders have less margin for error than ever. They also cite innovation as a key factor to achieving high performance. Executives are increasingly focused on innovation to support growth, develop new products and services, improve business models and enhance their customers’ experience. Our perspective continues to evolve in response to our work with clients and our ongoing research on what drives high performance. In this issue of Outlook, we share our latest insights. We present a methodology to assess performance, and we articulate our view on what high performance means in government. We also explore in other articles some common characteristics of high performers, including a keen ability to master core competencies, to use outsourcing intelligently, and to balance present and future agendas.
