The 21st Accenture Global Convergence Forum opened with an inaugural ceremony hosted by Bill Green, Accenture CEO and Chairman, Harsh Manglik, Chairman, Accenture India, Marty Cole, Group Chief Executive, Communications & High Tech Group and Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations.
In his welcome speech, Harsh Manglik set the tone for the next three days, giving the audience a sense of the possibilities that abound in the Indian market. Manglik’s remarks focused on how India is positioned to become one of the largest economies in the world. In addition, the complexity of the India economy provides a laboratory for companies to experiment with innovative new business models, new products and services, and new approaches to R&D. India also has long cultured an environment of innovation, as exemplified in the $2500 Nano automobile, and in advances in diverse fields such as high quality/low cost healthcare, easy-to-use mobile computing and communications devices.

In his opening remarks, Bill Green highlighted the importance of India to Accenture, both in terms of talent, and as a market. According to Green, this is the most opportune moment to hold this event in India as the country—with its strong focus on innovation and infrastructure—is leveraging communications and high tech to improve the lives of the people and is poised to become one of the leaders on the global stage.
Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Indian Prime Minister on information technology and innovations, concluded the opening session. Pitroda emphasized the challenge of using the fiber, computing power and software to modernize India’s education, health systems, governance and public delivery systems. Congratulating Accenture for organizing the Global Convergence Forum in India, he pointed out that India as perfect laboratory for testing every aspect of global convergence.
