What do you like most about being in the Accenture Technology Labs?
The thing I most enjoy about being in the Accenture Technology Labs is the combination of research and client work. We have an opportunity to experiment with new technologies, develop prototypes; do research, while at the same time getting experience in big Accenture projects. This gives us a good understanding of the IT consulting business which helps us in the challenge of transforming new technologies into business opportunities.
What kind of project do you enjoy working on most?
I like relatively small projects with an international scope, challenging goals and involving new technologies.
How would you explain your current project in 1 or 2 sentences?
The SPT Trial project, also known as miSense, is a trial at London Heathrow Airport that tests how biometric technology can make air travel easier. By using fingerprint recognition technology, miSense aims to simplify processes in airports while maintaining high standards of security. Accenture has led the biometrics work, the business process and change management aspects, and has participated in project management.
What was the first piece of technology you ever bought?
An Amstrad PC 1512 (512 Kbytes of RAM and no hard drive)
What emerging technology is most likely to change the world in the next decade?
I think there is high potential in the new mobile devices such as PDAs or Smartphones. Users are starting to surf the Web, upload data, create or consume content and services straight from their mobile phones; the new devices are also able to do VoIP and have access to pop3 e-mail. The mobile phone changed our lives 10 years ago; the next generation of mobile devices will change it again.
