General Counsel, Secretary & Chief Compliance Officer*
As general counsel, Julie Sweet has ultimate responsibility for all legal support to Accenture, serving as principal counsel to senior leadership and the board of directors and leading the company's Legal department. As head of the Legal department, she oversees all legal services, the contract management function and the office of government relations. As chief compliance officer, Ms. Sweet is responsible for managing legal and regulatory compliance programs that enable Accenture to operate around the globe while adhering to the highest ethical standards. She also serves as corporate secretary and is a member of Accenture’s Global Management Committee.
Prior to joining Accenture in 2010, Ms. Sweet was, for 10 years, a partner in the Corporate department of the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, which she joined in 1992. She led a broad corporate practice at the firm, which included representing underwriters, private equity funds and corporate clients in public and private financings, advising on mergers and acquisitions, and providing general corporate counsel.Ms. Sweet serves on the Board of Directors of the Bipartisan Policy Center. She also was recognized by The Legal 500 in 2009 for her work in equity offerings in the capital markets, by Lawdragon magazine in 2007 as one of the top 500 leading lawyers and as one of the top 500 dealmakers in America, and by The American Lawyer in 2006 as one of the “Dealmakers of the Year” for her work on the $5 billion initial global offering of KKR Private Equity Investors, L.P.Ms. Sweet holds a bachelor of arts degree from Claremont McKenna College, where she is a member of the board of trustees, and holds a juris doctor degree from Columbia Law School.
*On May 4, 2015, Accenture announced that Julie Spellman Sweet will become group chief executive—North America, effective June 1, 2015, succeeding Stephen J. Rohleder, who will retire from the company on August 31, 2015. Chad Jerdee will become General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer, effective June 1, 2015.
