Prior to his current position he was global managing director for Accenture's Communications Industry segment and the managing director, North American communications client group.
Prior to joining Accenture, Zimmerman was chief executive officer of Predictive Systems, a network and security consulting and information services company headquartered in New York City. Prior to joining Predictive, he was the chief operating officer of idealab! New York and was responsible for operating the idealab!

Before idealab! Zimmerman was the global leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers' E-Business Consulting practice. Prior to the E-Business role, he served as the global industry leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Information and Communications practice.
He has been a pioneer of Internet related activities for more than a decade. In 1986, he co-founded Reach Networks and was hailed in a Tom Peters article. Peters later described that article as “one of the most important stories we have ever run.”
Zimmerman received a B.A. from Haverford College in three years and was subsequently awarded a Thomas J. Watson post-graduate Fellowship during which he travelled and studied with circuses in Western Europe and the Soviet Union. He received an M.S. from New York University and is a certified public accountant.
