Accenture Technology Labs was recognized for security excellence, as demonstrated in its prototype, Accenture Travel Security Services. This award-winning prototype showcases how e-passports, biometrics, automated gates, kiosks, two-dimensional barcode boarding passes, radio frequency identification baggage tags and mobile devices can be used to streamline passenger check-in, emigration, boarding and arrival security operations at airports.
As the cornerstone of Belgium's e-government program, the security system enables the federal government to authenticate the identities of citizens and civil servants. In 2005, more than half a million tax returns were filed electronically by people who used their electronic identification, or token, to authenticate their identity.
Accenture worked closely with the Belgian federal government to build the core e-government system, which led the design and implementation of a federated authentication service.
"Winning the award in the implementation category is a great recognition of our delivery excellence in bringing an innovative solution to our client," said Wim Bartsoen of Accenture. "Furthermore, it is a confirmation that Accenture is a key partner in helping it achieve high performance in electronic government solutions."
"This is an illustration of how the Accenture Technology Labs turns technology innovation into business results," said Cyrille Bataller of Accenture Technology Labs. "The award shows that Travel Security Services is meaningful and relevant to the security industry."
