Local Environmental Initiatives

At the local level, we continue to take actions to reduce our environmental impact. The following examples highlight just some of our many initiatives worldwide.

Accenture in Australia is located in one of Sydney's most environmentally efficient buildings.

Accenture in Canada partnered with the World Wildlife Fund to implement new energy management programs in our Toronto office.

Accenture in India
employees launched a carpool portal in fiscal 2011 aimed at helping colleagues find carpool partners and save substantially on fuel and auto maintenance while reducing carbon emissions. To date, 18,000 employees have registered for the carpool.

Accenture in Italy encouraged the use of trains for round-trip travel between Milan and Rome for assignments longer than three days and two nights. As a result, between fiscal 2009 and fiscal 2011, our carbon emissions dropped more than 8 percent overall—a savings of almost 200 tons of CO2—and more than 15 percent per person. 

Accenture in Mexico is the latest location to implement our global Environmental Management System, and the newest addition to our global ISO 14001 certification

Accenture in the United States runs a program to encourage Accenture teams to consider alternative travel arrangements where it makes business sense.

Accenture in Belgium employs rainwater recycling and other eco efficiencies such as solar panels, sustainable building materials and smart lighting in its Brussels office.

Accenture in India harvests rainwater and treats waste water on-site for use in watering gardens. In one office with several thousand employees, water consumption reduced by 7 percent.

Accenture in Italy replaced plastic water bottles with fresh water dispensers in meeting rooms.

Accenture in Spain installed aeration rings in bathroom faucets to reduce water pressure and save on water usage.

Accenture in Argentina’s paper recycling efforts saved landfill and more than 1,000 trees in fiscal 2011, while benefiting the Garrahan Foundation and the pediatric hospital it supports. Since 2000, Accenture in Argentina has recycled more than 100 metric tons of paper, with financial proceeds directed to this local cause.

Accenture in Australia
recycles organic waste, paper, glass and plastic from the Melbourne office to reduce per capita waste to landfill. 

Accenture in the Philippines implemented a plan to manage its US$2 million catering supply chain to replace conventional Styrofoam packaging with compostable and recyclable packaging. Currently 100 percent of our more than 40 accredited food vendors are complying with the program.

Accenture in Spain introduced an environmental program for re-use, recycling and waste segregation, enabling the recycling of approximately 80 percent of waste generated from the Spanish offices.

Accenture in the United Kingdom
recycles surplus standard office furniture items and composts food waste from the kitchens in Accenture cafeterias via a charity that donates the compost to community garden projects in east London.
