Our Global People Survey found that 86 percent of our US employees believe that Accenture is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen. In our annual US Employee Volunteerism & Giving survey, we dig deeper, asking Accenture people specific questions about their perceptions of and involvement in our US Corporate Citizenship programs.
In addition to getting valuable metrics about our programs—such as what percentage of people volunteer at company events—we also collect feedback to help us figure out what we can do to engage as many employees as possible in our programs. Our study found that more than 65 percent of respondents cited a busy schedule as their biggest obstacle to volunteering. Knowing this, our volunteer program managers offer a variety of volunteerism options, including family-inclusive volunteering, weekend and weekday events.
Our US Volunteerism & Giving website is another valuable tool for tracking participation in our volunteer events. The calendar of events on the website is a "one-stop shop" for employees who are interested in finding Accenture volunteer events in the city where they live, or in another US city where they may be staffed on a client project.
Accenture also regularly conducts Work/Life surveys that examine how Accenture's current offerings, such as parental leave and telecommuting, are working, and ask what additional programs would help them perform better and experience less stress, at work and at home. For example, our Backup Dependent Care program was developed after 40 percent of respondents in a Work/Life survey reported additional stress or missing work due to unexpected issues with childcare or eldercare.
