The ChemCon 2012 edition will take place in Madrid March 5 – 9, bringing together more than 250 experts to focus on international chemical legislation including REACH, GHS and country-specific information on inventories and labelling requirements.
This year will see the entry of Accenture on the advisory board of ChemCon, and the opportunity for Accenture to provide two speakers to present industry-related subjects during the conferences. In addition, there will also be some exhibitions in which Accenture will present two of its Accenture Plant and Automation Solutions (APAS) solutions: the Accenture Life Safety Solution (ALSS) and the IUCLID –SAP connector tool.
ALSS is a wireless solution which continuously monitors at all times an individual’s location and exposure to gas while in the plant via a single multi-gas detector (H2S, O2, LEL, CO, SO2 and NO2). A series of action triggers can be sent to the control room in case a worker is exposed to an abnormal concentration of a certain gas; or, if a worker stays without moving at all for too long, then the control room will receive an alert and the operators are aware of its exact position (man down detection). In addition, the detector features a panic button which sends a signal to the control room. Communications between the detectors and the control room are insured by wireless access points installed all over the plant, covering all work areas, and can be extended to mobile communications.
The ALSS solution is designed for working environments such as refineries, chemical plants and other locations where dense steel infrastructure can make wireless safety solutions difficult to introduce. But thanks to an efficient implementation and a full integration amongst the existing systems (to ensure data-availability for the worker and controller), this APAS solution can ensure a safe working environment and a reduction of the work accidents and fatalities to nearly zero.
The second solution Accenture will showcase at ChemCon is the IUCLID-SAP connector tool which allows the transfer of substance-specific information (substance properties and study end points) from IUCLID5 to SAP and the other way round. This automated transfer allows to avoid any kind of manual entry and to maintain consistency between both systems.
IUCLID 5 is the tool that handles the storage and exchange of data on chemical substances between companies and regulatory authorities. The format in which the data is exchanged is the format from the OECD, applicable to the REACH regulation as well as other regulatory schemes (i.e. Chemical Ordinance in Switzerland). Most of the data it captures is also used by the SAP EHS management module, in particular through its REACH compliance functionality.
The solution offers a cockpit view that allows you to select either all fields or some of the fields you wish to transfer, as well as the direction of the transfer. The IUCLID-SAP connector tool is the missing link that bridges the gap between these two systems.
By presenting these two technical solutions, Accenture will demonstrate some assets that are part of its EH&S solutions pack for the chemicals industry. Our EH&S offering targets environment, health and safety concerns for asset-intensive companies engaged in manufacturing, production and/or plant operations.
