Where in the world?
Published: Jan-27-12

I've spent my entire life in this city; I was raised in Toronto and attended university in Toronto. When it came time to join the workforce, I joined Accenture — in Toronto. For my first client, I was staffed on a local project — in Toronto. Two and a half years later, I am still with the same client on the same local project.

One could say I haven't really experienced the world — but I have, because of Accenture.

As a consultant, you have opportunities to travel to different locales, for training or for project work — from a couple days a week to months at a time. No matter where you are, Accenture connects its most important resource, its people, from all around the world to form what we call: One Global Network. Through this, Accenture is able to have its best people in the right place for the right job.

My team on my current project consists of nine people. Three from Toronto, one from Johannesburg, South Africa and five located in Bangalore, India. Twice a week, we have a status call with everyone on the team. When it is bright and early in Toronto we say “good evening” to the folks in India who are wrapping up their day. Even though we are over 13,000 kilometers apart, the status calls give us an opportunity to not only collaborate and inform, but to also experience each other's culture through the work that connects our team.

Better still, a few weeks ago one of my team members from India joined us here in Toronto. I could finally put a name (and a voice) to a face!  I now have the pleasure of working with someone who grew up in a different country, speaks a different first language and has a palate for a different cuisine than I do. Even with all these “differences”, Accenture provides an inclusive and supportive environment for us to work seamlessly together as a team and deliver high performance to our clients, no matter where in the world we are from.

Despite having been in Toronto all my life, I have experienced the world. No matter if a project is local, across the country or on a different continent, Accenture provides an opportunity to work with individuals from around the world. Everyone has a different experience and a different story to tell -- mine is just one of 244,000 (and growing).
