The Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB)-Alberta is a not-for-profit mutual insurance corporation funded entirely by employers.
WCB-Alberta provides cost-effective workplace liability and disability insurance to more than 1.8 million workers and 127,000 employers. It collects premiums in excess of CDN$950 million per year.
Since 1990, Accenture has been providing application development, enhancement and maintenance services for WCB-Alberta’s applications spanning legacy, client/server, desktop and Web-based technologies. As a result, WCB-Alberta is experiencing significantly increased quality and decreased cost of annual maintenance budgets while having improved application stability and reliability.
When a workplace injury occurs in Alberta, WCB is called upon to provide services that are vital to minimizing the impact of that accident both to the injured worker and to the worker’s employer. To provide those services, WCB-Alberta recognized that technology could play a key enabling role to help the organization drive high performance.
Its vision for business applications was to have applications that would be configurable to meet changing business needs, highly reliable especially for critical applications and cost effective to meet the organization’s stewardship goals in financial management. To develop and maintain those applications, WCB-Alberta chose Accenture for Accenture’s early and ongoing leadership in outsourcing, for our breadth and scope of services and for our reputation for high-quality delivery.
