The Virginia Department of Transportation recognized it needed to overhaul its financial information management system.
The Virginia Department of Transportation has a $2.7 billion annual budget and employs 9,600 people to build and maintain more than 50,000 miles of roads within the Commonwealth.
The Department recognized that its method of collecting, processing and sharing financial information was critical to effectively managing resources and delivering service. The department also recognized that its current financial information management system could not support the organization's needs moving into the 21st century.
VDOT officials conducted an extensive requirements analysis and reengineering effort to determine the shape and purpose of a new financial management system (FMSII).
