Headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. is one of the largest non-OEM designers and manufacturers of structures for commercial, military and business/regional jets in the world. They were looking for a way to accelerate business decision making based on statistical analysis to avoid production delays, hold down costs and accelerate their journey to high performance.
In an industry where there is no room for cost overruns, Spirit was looking for opportunities to predict costly production delays while complying with tightly monitored regulatory requirements. The company needed a timely way to access business intelligence to for faster, better informed decisions that directly affect production time.
Based on a long-standing relationship and our award winning experience in working with SAP to help organizations realize greater value from their software investments, company leaders turned to Accenture to help. Together, we were able to deliver a solution that yields timely, accurate information by integrating data from multiple sources, implementing in-memory computing based on the SAP HANA platform and developing data models that produced ongoing analytics within the supply chain and assembly operations.
With the successful HANA deployment, Spirit is able to enhance supply chain management, hold down costs and streamline operations in an industry known for tight operating margins. The ongoing flow of business intelligence provides accurate and near real-time status of orders to shop-floor mechanics and managers. In particular, the buffer-incursion analytics delivers insights so that Spirit can map out actions that drive down production time, overtime labor costs and inventory levels.
In 2014, InformationWeek named the aerospace manufacturer among the “Elite 100,” in the publication’s annual ranking of the leading US users of business technology.
