Accenture's delivery capability has been a critical factor for this cooperative effort. We have worked with the Portuguese Tax Department of the Ministry of Finance since 1989. During this time we have led several initiatives.
We have restructured complex subsets of the systems, such as the individual income tax returns processing, the billings and refunds issuing process, to make them more flexible and easier to maintain.
We have performed studies for integrated taxpayer accounting to support the communication between different tax systems. We also conducted a review of the registration processes and data. The new collections and accounting structure is planned to be deployed firstly for Income Tax, in the Year 2001, and then for VAT (value-added tax).
We have developed a new Common Taxpayer Registration System, which will support all taxes, including VAT, by replacing the former Registration subsystem of the VAT System. This project concluded in July 1999.
We have also developed local office applications such as administration processes and treasury functions. There have been several small projects to deal with legislation changes; to enhance performance; to add new functionality; and to increase integration and modularity.
We are currently developing a new taxpayers' accounting and collection system. This will support communications between different tax systems and will provide a revision of the registration processes and data.
We also assist this client with the general maintenance of their systems.
