The client is a large, rapidly-evolving oil and gas company with presence in multiple countries and operations around the world.
The client engaged Accenture to maximize use of technology for business growth and to develop a network strategy. Accenture used our unique alliance with Cisco—the Accenture & Cisco Business Group (ACBG)—to provide technology and business insights. Accenture delivered upon its promise of high performance by reducing approximately 23 percent of the client’s costs within the first 12 months of the new strategy implementation.
The client, a large oil and gas company, had significant market entries in new geographies. Over a period of several years, it had made costly investments in network hardware. However, organic growth resulted in a network environment with many overlapping technologies. As a result, management of the network was complex, change more difficult to implement, and the ability to use the network to support business objectives when entering a new geography — such as delivering network capabilities to remote locations and setting up new offices — was constrained. The client sought to build a technology network infrastructure, including field telecoms and collaboration tools that could be quickly and effectively established at new sites.
The client chose Accenture — due to its experienced perspective, Network Strategy offering and deep domain knowledge — to help build its network strategy with a technology vision in which secure, cost-effective networks would serve as an enabler for business growth and collaboration needs.
The client and Accenture worked together to build the client’s network strategy through the assessment of its existing network infrastructure, technologies, support model and future business needs. During the assessment, Accenture leveraged its unique alliance with Cisco—the Accenture Cisco Business Group (ACBG)—to provide technology and business insights into O&G industry-specific solutions and network technology thought leadership. The Accenture and Cisco Business Group (ACBG) develops and delivers network-enabled business solutions that help organizations shorten time-to-value and gain competitive edge.
Using a proven approach to network strategy, Accenture identified the client’s key business needs of developing IT networks that would enable entry into new geographies, secure its intellectual property, and operate in a cost-effective manner, and combined this with its understanding of network technologies (especially Cisco).
Thanks to Accenture’s help, the multinational oil and gas company now has a roadmap to continually improve its network for emerging business needs. It is also able to secure its network, and better connect employees through enhanced collaboration. This in turn, helps reduced network-spend achieved through more efficient delivery models, more selective choice of tools and a wide area network (WAN) procurement strategy. The oil and gas company has gained increased speed-to-delivery and aggressively reduced general and administrative costs by approximately 23 percent within a year. Above all, it has created a network that is poised to drive better digital connectivity for its core business.
