NBN Co runs pioneering project management system for more than 4,000 network construction projects across Australia.
In just six months, NBN Co. – with help from Accenture— rolled out robust project management capabilities designed to manage more numerous simultaneous construction projects related to the construction of Australia’s national broadband network.
Having project management capabilities in place is critical to helping the NBN Co team manage to the budget allocated by the Australian government, and meet the timeline articulated in their corporate plan.

Formed in August 2009, NBN Co is responsible for building one of Australia’s largest infrastructure projects, the A$37.4 billion national broadband network.
Mainland construction began in October 2010, and the company estimated when construction peaked, the network would be passing 6,000 premises a day.
Because these projects would mostly be delivered by third party construction contractors, NBN Co needed a construction project management system that would provide visibility into every project, large or small, and offer sophisticated reporting and analysis of functionality.
NBN Co had previously selected Oracle Projects, which is part of the Oracle E-Business Suite of applications, and Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management, also an Oracle product, as the overall project management platform.
Working together, Accenture and NBN Co integrated Oracle Projects with Primavera P6, and Oracle Procurement with Primavera Contract Management.
NBN Co now has the systems in place that will help the company manage many individual and concurrent projects, and maintain tight control of billions of dollars in expenditure over the 10-year network construction period.
NBN Co can now manage schedules and costs using a single integrated project management system that helps enable consistency across all projects.
