During the construction of Australia’s A$37.4 billion dollar National Broadband Network, tens of thousands of contractors will be engaged in work on thousands of sites across the country.
NBN Co needed health-and-safety applications that would ensure all necessary precautions were in place, as well as the highest possible safety for everyone involved in the project.
Between January and August 2011, NBN Co and Accenture worked together to deliver a series of health and safety management capabilities.
As a first step, Accenture professionals worked with NBN Co to prepare a tender for software vendors. Accenture analysed the responses and created a detailed comparison that helped NBN Co assess their relative merits.
After a careful evaluation, NBN Co selected a niche Web-based product offered by a locally based company in Australia.
In just seven months, Accenture delivered the health-and-safety management platform, helping NBN Co executives gain much needed visibility on health and safety issues, as well as minimising construction site health and safety risks.
As construction peaks, there will be thousands of workers on up to 1700 separate projects.
With a global view of the incidents and hazards on every site, NBN Co can continually monitor incidents, and proactively manage risks to all workers and the company itself.
