NBN Co. has established integrated business intelligence capabilities that help its executive management maintain firm control over the financing and construction of Australia’s first National Broadband Network, using Oracle’s Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition 11g (OBIEE).

Business Challenge

At its peak, the construction phases of the National Broadband Network would involve thousands of separate projects across the vast Australian continent.

To maintain control over costs and delivery, NBN Co executives required systems in place that gave them visibility on all aspects of project finance, construction, projects, risks and procurement performance.

These systems had been previously deployed by Accenture on select Oracle applications.

How We Helped

Working together, NBN Co and Accenture quickly deployed a business intelligence platform that gave executives and project managers the ability to closely monitor network construction and project finance.

They chose Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition 11g (OBIEE), since it was the most comprehensive and complemented the Oracle systems already installed.

The platform also offered out-of-the-box capabilities, such as pre-designed reports that would expedite roll-out, and a data repository that was already integrated with the Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning Suite.

Working closely with NBN Co top management, Accenture designed more than 100 customised reports accessible via a single Web portal.

High Performance Delivered

Within two months, NBN Co executives gained access to business intelligence reports that provided critical insights into construction and contractor performances.

Today, executives have a business intelligence capability that provides them with information they need to maintain effective control over the National Broadband Network project, and which is being expanded to cover hundreds of individual construction projects.
