Accenture helped this client stabilize its Oracle Hyperion platform, and then leverage it to create standard financial management processes that enable better budgeting and planning. Support costs have also been reduced significantly.
The client recognized that its planning, budgeting and forecasting processes were inefficient and prioritized an initiative to improve the accuracy, timing and cost of its financial planning. However, it was hampered by a lack of an integrated single technology solution to support a harmonized, global planning process. With multiple subsidiaries around the world, a key requirement for such a solution was the ability to run a single global instance. The client chose to implement Oracle Hyperion with the help of a third party.
However, after implementation the new platform remained critically unstable with major performance issues surfacing. In addition, the new solution was not fully integrated into the other reporting/business intelligence applications, and IT support was inadequate.
The client asked Accenture to step in and help stabilize the platform.
Accenture assumed responsibility for overall project management and solution guidance for the implementation of the Oracle Hyperion platform. Leveraging its global resources, Accenture set up a support team that drew on the Accenture Oracle Hyperion Center of Excellence in Milan, Italy, and specialized consulting resources, highly skilled in Hyperion Planning and Essbase, to work on a major redesign of the application to address the performance and stability issues. In particular, Accenture’s technical design team helped reduce the database size in order to stabilize performance—but without reducing its capabilities for analysis.
To achieve this, Accenture collaborated closely with Oracle. Accenture also helped create structured processes between the IT and Finance departments to facilitate integrated planning and budgeting. Other areas of focus included a process for managing master data, integrating with SAP Business Warehouse, Cardea and various downstream legacy systems, and delivering new data sets and functionalities to address unmet requirements. The process took around 18 months to complete.
With Accenture’s help, the client now has a stable, central and standard financial planning system and processes that enable high performance. The solution offers multidimensional modeling, calculation and reporting capabilities. Today, the planning and budgeting process runs more smoothly and is more accurate, helping users to meet deadlines and support the company’s overall business strategy much more effectively. At the same time, support costs have decreased by about 20 percent annually.
