The client is an American multinational global manufacturer that employs approximately 80,000 people worldwide and produces more than 50,000 products.
The manufacturer sought to implement an integrated platform of standardized business practices for improved operations. Accenture acted as the manufacturer’s strategic ally to achieve this global business transformation enabled by SAP. The Accenture team leveraged the proven approach of Accenture Advanced Enterprise Solutions (AAES), which provided an innovative, comprehensive and proven approach that accelerated the capture of business value throughout the enterprise. With our help, the manufacturer saw a seamless integration of all SAP core modules and niche skill technology platforms, which helped the client’s business to operate more efficiently. The manufacturer now has one seamless global template that can drive future SAP deployments regardless of their location.
As the manufacturer expanded into new regions, it also accumulated multiple in-house and regional legacy applications across the world. This caused challenges in integrating across business functions such as sales, purchasing, manufacturing and planning. To enable greater operational efficiency, the manufacturer required a seamlessly integrated global platform of standardized business practices and centrally maintained applications. Therefore, the organization entered into a transformation focused on standardizing and reducing complexity around processes and enhancing transparency between business functions.
The manufacturer leveraged SAP technology for the transformation due to its extensive coverage of industry-relevant business processes and because the system would integrate well with other functions within the organization. Utilizing an SAP solution to standardize business processes would also allow management to obtain faster and more accurate reporting to facilitate improved decision-making.
The manufacturer sought Accenture’s help primarily because of its industry knowledge, global reach, skilled people, industrialized approach-–and the proficiency of Accenture’s 38,000-strong SAP team and its three-decade long alliance with SAP.
Accenture acted as the manufacturer’s global strategic ally to achieve the business transformation goals enabled by SAP. The SAP implementation involved a plan phase (planning/implementation strategy), blueprint (analyze/design), realization phase (build/test), deploy phase and go-live and support. The project’s timeframe included the objective of a first release taking place over 18 months. Future releases will include rolling out the solution to other countries and geographies (scheduled for completion in 2017).
Working closely with the manufacturer’s business leaders, the Accenture team leveraged the high performance capabilities of Accenture’s Advanced Enterprise Services (AAES). This comprehensive solution delivered significant business advantages for the manufacturer, including:
Increased customer responsiveness through better control of the entire supply chain.
Greater operational accuracy, as well as increased agility and flexibility.
Common processes and expanded IT capabilities.
Greater efficiencies and reduced total cost of ownership.
AAES is built on an SAP platform making it compatible with the latest enterprise resource planning (ERP) technologies and functional platforms. AAES provided complete process documentation and industrialized implementation accelerators. Rather than devoting months or years to overseeing implementation, the improved implementation path allowed the client’s IT professionals more time to focus on strategic and operational matters.
With Accenture’s support, the manufacturer saw a seamless integration of all SAP core modules and niche skill technology platforms, which helped standardize business processes for improvement efficiently. The engagement delivered 240 business processes, more than 2,800 Configuration Rationales and more than 350 workflows, reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements and forms (WRICEF) development objects.
As a result of the implementation, the manufacturer has gained:
A streamlined and improved set of master data without redundancies.
A well-structured business transformation model in place which helps the organization meet the challenging market conditions.
Shorter lead-time on the availability of management reports. (Generally, large SAP projects can achieve 25-30 percent shorter lead-time in the beginning).
The project also helped provide re-usable AAES solutions for business process design, activity definition and system configuration during the blueprint and build phase of the project, which allowed the client to save time and money. For example, AAES usage in the first release saw an overall effort saving of approximately 10 percent. AAES re-use in the other releases resulted in an overall effort saving of approximately 18 percent.
Due to Accenture’s help on the implementation, the manufacturer now has one efficient global template that can drive future SAP deployments regardless of their location.
