This bank is the retail arm of a top-10 Italian banking firm and was launched as part of the Italian banking group’s efforts to strengthen its position in the retail banking market.
The retail bank was launched at the apex of the global financial crisis, when consumer trust in financial institutions was at its lowest, so its goals were ambitious: By 2011, the retail bank was to have amassed more than 300,000 clients, established more than 100 branches and secured more than €10 billion in deposits and more than €5 billion in loans, then double those numbers by 2013.

A project of this scale and complexity would impact all of the group’s functional and business areas, including its IT infrastructure. In addition, only three months were allocated for the build phase.
The first projects focused on the initial launch—a multilayer technical infrastructure had to be implemented with a multichannel architecture supporting Web, iPhone and home-based banking; fixed and mobile branches; a contact center; and back-office capabilities.
In all, Accenture developed more than 200 functionalities for the bank’s four main products (deposit account, pocket account, current account and mortgage), as well as front- and back-office integration enablement through five front-end systems and three back-end systems (core banking, credit card and mortgage).
Accenture leveraged its Financial Services Competence Center in Verona and its Test Factory in Naples to help ensure a smooth launch.
Accenture provided the bank a successful launch that established the business management, sales management, IT systems, marketing, finance and back-office operations.
