The CIO 24/7 podcast series provides insights on applied innovation from leaders in the Accenture CIO organization.
CIO is Accenture’s internal IT team, and is responsible for helping to ensure that technology innovation continues to enable high performance for the company.
It is increasingly important for IT organizations to operate effectively while still supporting the changing needs of their internal business customers. Just how can IT organizations do more with less and track their contribution to the overall performance of the company? In this podcast, Accenture CIO’s Bob Kress answers these questions.
Drawing on his own experience in running Accenture’s internal IT business operations, Kress outlines how to run the IT organization as a business. He argues that developing a new IT operating model built on four pillars is essential. These pillars are:
Clearly defined IT strategy: Tied to Accenture’s business strategy and priorities.
IT governance approach: Clarity around responsibility and accountability for IT decision making.
Managed Services: Allow customers to better meet their business needs through a catalog of IT products and services.
Performance measurement and metrics: Measure progress and use metrics to communicate success back to the business.
Since following this approach, Accenture CIO has achieved dramatic results, reducing IT spending by 20 percent while supporting an organization that has doubled in size.
