Accenture was an early adopter of this standard, and Keith Heston, Senior Manager within Accenture, shares some of the reasons why you might want to consider CMMI in your organization.
Heston argues that organizations must first assess what their business goals are, and what weaknesses might prevent them reaching those goals. Only then should they consider which of the numerous standards they should adopt. If they are having problems in the systems area, then CMMI could certainly play a role in creating processes that are based on proven practices and that become "the way we do things here."
He cautions that CMMI must be seen as part of the organization's wider quality management plan rather than a substitute for it.
