Shared services created something of a revolution in the business back office, and the model has now become a critical enabler of efficient services and one of the levers of high performance.
At Accenture’s 10th annual global shared services conference, Paul Boulanger, managing director-Finance & Performance Management, Accenture, looked at what makes for mastery in shared services. Accenture surveyed almost 300 managers of shared services operations for companies in 20 different industries around the world. In this research, Accenture found that masters are working to drive growth and transform the business by providing additional and higher value-added services to the businesses they support. For instance, they are increasingly offering analytics and decision support, facilitating merger and acquisition integration and influencing end-to-end processes throughout the business.
Boulanger outlines the common characteristics that shared services masters build on as they strive to reach these goals.
