With unemployment numbers high in so many parts of the world, how can organizations anywhere be facing skills shortages? While the issue seems counterintuitive, nearly one-third of employers are having difficulty filling important positions due to a shortage of skilled talent. The people are there—but they do not necessarily have the right knowledge, skills and abilities companies and government agencies need to succeed. It’s a situation with potentially grave consequences.
In this podcast, Norbert Büning, executive director and global lead for Learning & Collaboration offerings in the Accenture Talent & Organization group, and Breck Marshall, executive director and North America lead for the Learning & Collaboration service line within Accenture Talent & Organization, discuss their recent article in Outlook Journal entitled “Solving the Global Skills Crisis.” The authors explore a range of new approaches organizations can take to address skill gaps—from evaluating how they define the jobs that need to be filled, to how they attract and recruit talent, to how they develop skills in potential labor pools.
