Life sciences companies can use social media in pharma to foster stronger collaboration and forge links that result in innovation.
Our recent study shows that more than two-thirds of the consumers in the United States seek medical advice via the Internet and social media. So if marketing teams could share early feedback on products with the research and development (R&D) team, it would help meet consumer needs better.
Internal use of social media in pharma also helps build confidence as companies can go beyond their organization to engage with patients and healthcare practitioners. For example, patients and physician forums are important channels that allow companies to listen to consumers and provide better customer service.
Action item for the CIO: Technology leaders should promote effective use of social media inside the organization by providing the right tools and encouraging its adoption.
