Federal IT: Five solutions for achieving IT optimization across the federal government
Information Technology is a top priority for the federal government, especially as it is challenged with declining budgets, rising costs and expanding missions. All the while, the goal of reducing the total number of federal data centers by 2015 still looms. In these unprecedented times, it is now increasingly clear that a broad and multifaceted approach to IT optimization will be required to fully realize the federal government objectives and achieve lasting benefits.
In this report, Accenture details its Federal IT Optimization Offering—a set of five solutions to help federal organizations meet requirements for IT optimization and realize long-term strategic goals.
Budgets and resources are stretched further than ever in the federal government. Funding is falling. Demand for new capabilities and services is growing. Then there is the issue of antiquated and disparate technologies that are straining to deal with the large volume of data and information available. Through it all, an evolving threat to cyber security persists.
The need for swift action culminates from several IT initiatives launched by the US Office of Management and Budget, which include the 25-point plan to reduce federal IT spending and consolidate data centers.
Initially, the federal government’s focus was on reducing the total number of federal data centers by 2015. Since then, it has become clear that a broad and multifaceted approach to federal IT optimization will be required to fully realize government objectives and achieve lasting benefits.
This approach includes modernizing existing infrastructures, optimizing application portfolios, leveraging cloud technologies and using business analytics to inform the decision-making process.
Drawing on our experience with both the commercial industry and government, Accenture has developed the Federal IT Optimization Offering to help federal agencies achieve their objectives.
