Global travel and traveler expectations are unrecognisable compared to those held a century ago, yet the processes of border control have remained relatively unchanged. This steady growth of traffic, combined with the increased threat of terrorism, is putting border agencies under considerable pressure and limited headcount and budget has compounded the situation.
While border agencies need to streamline the border clearance process as much as possible, they also need to engage in inter-agency collaboration and watch list management to enhance security. Their organisations and processes need to become more dynamic and flexible to deal with changing policies, unexpected events and evolving risks.
