Discontent over traditional distribution fees continues to be a hot issue for the airline industry. Star Alliance, for example, initiated a major cost-reduction effort by seeking other distribution channels to the current GDS. Our first event featured executives from key airline industry players discussing this issue and looking at some potential future scenarios:
- Is the GNE model viable outside of the United States?
- How are the product offerings of GDSs and GNEs likely to evolve in the future?
- Will European GDS liberalization make the concept obsolete?
- Is there anything that airlines should do about it now?
Hosted by Alex Cruz, senior executive in Accenture’s Airline group, this webcast also featured Ninan Chacko, senior vice president of e-Commerce and Product Planning at Worldspan, and Ellen Lee, business development for G2 SwitchWorks.
