Health and human services integration is plain common sense in theory. In practice, it is often easier said than done. However, many states and localities are finding new opportunities to spark health and human services integration in the wake of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) implementation. States that were heads-on down on meeting the October 1, 2013 implementation deadline are newly positioned to look ahead. As part of this forward thinking, they are exploring the ways that ACA system and process changes provide a springboard to integrated health and human services delivery so they can bring more value to the people they serve.
