The initial operation was small, with fewer than 10 people primarily engaged in general consulting assignments in strategy and organization structuring. In those early days, the main client base was drawn from the oil and gas sector of the economy, but we soon gained dominance in the financial services industry.
It is no exaggeration to say that Accenture in Nigeria has played a major role in the development of the country's financial services industry, mainly commercial and merchant banking. We have worked with practically all the major banks and at present hold a dominant position in the consulting market in that sector. The main services we have rendered to our Nigerian clients have typically included strategic planning, business operations restructuring, profit improvement studies, organization development, human resources management improvement and information technology planning. More recently we have demonstrated successes in business process re-engineering.
Today we boast of over 100 professionals with deep, market relevant skills bringing innovative solutions to clients. Our business strategy has also developed in line with the needs of our clients, moving from a strong focus on systems integration, through journey management, to a business integration approach. We are now reinventing ourselves to become the market-maker, architect and builder of the new economy, helping companies become high-performance businesses.
We are proud of being part of the global Accenture company, and see ourselves as leveraging its global resources and intellectual capital in a distinctively African way. We aim to be one of the drivers of the African Renaissance and also to ensure African intellects influence the world.
