Run by Management Today magazine, BMAC is a ranking of the FTSE 200, based on research conducted by Birmingham Business School, which sets out to determine the “most admired” companies and leaders both overall and by market segment.
The research is based on a set of stringent criteria and is conducted on a peer-to-peer basis—arguably peers being the toughest judges. Britain’s Most Admired Companies is a unique indicator of health for British businesses and in these difficult economic times reputation and high performance is more important than ever.
The winners of this year’s Britain’s Most Admired Companies awards were formally announced at a dinner on Wednesday November 30th at Claridges hotel. Full details of the ranking and research results can be found here. We would like to congratulate this year’s top 10 companies listed below.
Special congratulations go to the winning company, Berkeley Group, which is the first time that a house-builder has been named Britain’s Most Admired Company. Founded in 1976 by its chairman, Tony Pidgley, not only is Berkeley the first builder to top the poll, Pidgley secured the honour of becoming the first entrepreneur ever to secure the coveted Most Admired silver star, joining the ranks of blue-chip corporate titans such as Unilever, Tesco and BP.
