Daugherty’s job, writes Zijlstra, is to help Accenture’s clients use technology effectively to become high-performance businesses.
In Daugherty’s own words: “I have to make sure that we really deliver the solutions our clients ask for, and that they are connected to their internal processes. Moreover, it’s my job to be innovative when it comes to the development and implementation of new, emerging technologies. In light of that, we are very busy with things like service-oriented architecture (SOA), open source, software as a service (SaaS), web 2.0, cloud computing and mobility.” As the CIO’s partner, Daugherty says he has to balance the possibilities of new technology with the contribution they actually make to the business. Other challenges he is facing alongside his clients are green IT, carbon-neutral supply chains and other sustainability issues.
