While upgrading its existing enterprise resource planning solution to SAP R/3 and SAP Business Warehouse, BG Group identified the potential value of deploying a new enterprise portal solution at the same time.

Providing common systems and consistent information across the entire organization was considered a challenge and BG Group sought to overhaul its widely fragmented systems and information resulting from decentralization.

Accenture was selected to manage the technical delivery and ongoing support for BG Groups SAP Enterprise Portal 5.0 solution. The Accenture team was responsible for the technical definition of business services to be offered through the portal, by creation of the underlying framework, and the configuration, development, testing and delivery to employee desktops around the world. The work would have to be done concurrently with the transition to SAP R/3 and could not interfere or impede that upgrade and rollout.

SAP Enterprise Portal and SAP Business Warehouse are components of SAP NetWeaver, SAP's application and integration platform lying beneath all future SAP applications. Accenture NetWeaver-based solutions better support complex, extended processes and disparate systems, allowing users to operate with more intelligence.

With the help of Accenture, BG Group has effectively harnessed the ability of the Internet to deliver single point access to all applications their employees need to perform their work.
