Roche's pharmaceutical's division observed that the supply chain processes connecting local markets and production sites were largely unintegrated and seldom standardized. As a result, demand visibility was limited, forecasting effectiveness was compromised, and response and replenishment times often were slow.

Accenture helped Roche create a new supply chain operating model; redesign demand and supply planning processes; introduce a regional planning organization; formulate new reports and key performance indicators; and work with SAP to customize, implement, test and integrate the SAP Advanced Planning Optimization and Business Warehousing solutions.

Roche, Accenture and SAP created an integrated supply chain that is efficient, flexible and customer friendly, and did so on time and on budget. Its cornerstone is a single planning organization that coordinates supply and demand at a regional level and optimizes inventory investments across the enterprise. In addition, Roche now works from one consensus forecast for each product in each market, with detailed, consistent demand information that is visible to all stakeholders. Information about Roche supplies, planned stocks and production resides in a single SAP system, with clear communication across factory sites and markets. As a result of these breakthroughs, forecast accuracy and availability are higher, while lead times and safety stocks are lower.
