| | | Business Challenge | To mark the first anniversary and to assist the children who were displaced from their schools, the Accenture Public Service volunteer network launched its Coast-to-Coast program. Coast-to-Coast was an initiative that energized offices across the United States to bring much needed supplies to children returning to school in Austin, Houston and New Orleans. A year later in 2007, building upon its established momentum, the Accenture Public Service volunteer network collaborated with the national nonprofit organization called Operation: Military Kids (OMK). OMK is a partnership of many organizations supporting children of military families in all divisions, in rural, urban and suburban areas. Also in 2007, Accenture sponsored a two-day retreat In San Antonio to provide students, ranging in age from 10 to 17, with public speaking training. The training was designed help these students provide first-person accounts of the unique challenges and sacrifices military families make every day. Next: How We Helped |
| | | How We Helped | In the eight months from January to August 2006, Accenture Public Service volunteers donated their time and talents to bring together backpacks and school supplies to support schools in Austin, Houston and New Orleans. The original goal was to ship 800 backpacks filled with school supplies. By late August, more than 1,000 students were heading back to school with the supplies they needed, plus a personalized note of encouragement from Accenture volunteers. Less than one year later, in June 2007, with help and encouragement from Accenture, 19 students spoke to a special reception attended by senior military personnel, families and military support services in San Antonio. Two months after these students spoke on the topic: "Honor the Soldiers—Support the Families," the Accenture Public Service volunteer network followed up with backpack and school supply events in both San Antonio and Sacramento.
