Our research has identified eight technology trends that will influence all organizations. Three of these trends focus on major disruptive technologies: Cloud Computing Simply put, cloud computing refers to the sourcing of some capability—hardware, software or execution of a business process—from somewhere “out there.” Enabled by the rapid advances in hardware virtualization, server architecture, networks, software as a service (SaaS) and rich Internet applications (RIA), the location of computing is becoming less relevant and visible. Predictive Analytics While business intelligence helps companies to acquire and manage data to understand past or current trends, predictive insight takes enterprises one step further by enabling them to make predictions about the future in real time that can be acted upon to achieve new outcomes. Enterprise Mashups and Widgets In the last year, mashups have evolved to the point that end users can combine data or information from multiple sources using simple rules and produce a compound output. Widgets (or gadgets as they are sometimes called) are lightweight application interfaces that typically live on a desktop and continually update some data or enable users to provide simple data inputs or take actions. Both are rapidly emerging as an approach for user-driven data integration and rapid prototyping within the enterprise. Explore all eight trends in Accenture’s Technology Vision
