- Persuasive Mirror: Computerized persuasion or captology investigates how technology can help people shape their own behavior. We have implemented a digital mirror using two cameras placed on the sides of a screen and software that combines the video feeds. The mirror modifies the user's reflection based on the information about their behaviour related to a healthy lifestyle. Unwanted behavior is punished by exaggerating the future weight gain, while healthy behaviour is rewarded by showing the progress made. Early results from an ongoing study on adolescent obesity in collaboration with the University of California, San Diego, show that visual feedback does indeed have a positive influence on children's and parents' behaviour.
- Activity Monitoring: With cheap sensors such as cameras distributed around the house, and relatively basic intelligence, it is possible to continuously trace the occupants, to understand their actions, and derive important information about their health and well-being. This project explores the potential of using camera-based tracking technologies with an older person at home in order to improve their quality of life and help their family and caregivers provide better care and services.
