New-product development in the communications and high-tech industries is still essential, even in a challenging economy. The world will continue to see a proliferation of services and "screens"—the types and numbers of networked devices. So behind those screens there needs to be considerable work done to make the experience of using products both powerful and simple.
In this article, Accenture thought leaders discuss three keys to achieving high performance in the communications and high-tech industries in these challenging economic times.
- First, it's important to "make it new." Innovation is more important than ever. Recent Accenture research has found a correlation between companies that meet or exceed their new-product launch plans and those that leverage third parties in an open development environment.
- Second, companies must "make it easy." The number of networked devices in the world is expected to grow dramatically. So what consumers want and need is the assurance that companies will make products and services easy for them to use. Consumers are also looking for easy, unified service and support—a single source to go to if devices and services don't work properly or are difficult to configure.
- Finally, it's critical to "make it connected." Accenture believes that a more open and interconnected technology environment is essential if these industries are going to fulfill their potential over the next decade.
If companies keep in mind the imperative to "make it new, easy and connected," the years ahead will offer more opportunities than ever before to achieve high performance.
