Why I Recruit
| Posted at Dec. 13, 2007 05:04 PM CST | | | | Lynn Smith | | | I am a Technical recruiter, that’s what I do… I don’t think I ever said, “When I grow up, I want to be a recruiter” I fell into it. I liked to tinker on the internet, which led to internet research, which morphed somehow into finding programmers pre- dotcom boom. | | | I have never formerly said thank you to all the candidates that I have talked with that have both inspired and educated me. Over the years, I have had the privilege of talking with some pretty sharp individuals that introduced me to a concept, or idea, that stayed with me long after our initial conversation had ended. Nothing has touched me more than someone discussing an algorithm with a sense of deep appreciation, not unlike that felt when admiring a great work of art. It was that appreciation and gratitude for their craft…. That has inspired me throughout the years. | | | Thank you to that first candidate that introduced me to the art of computing, Thank you for sharing your “art” with me and taking me for a brief moment of time, into your world. Thank you for your generosity, without you, I would have never read about Grace Murray Hopper, or Donald Knuth. Who knows, maybe one of you I have talked with over the years is out there right now writing the next “Beautiful Code” Carry on my computing friends ….you have a fan here… | | | | Comment on this post |

May 24, 2009 03:13 AM CST | In your post, you said that you don't think you ever said, "When I grow up, I want to be a recruiter" and you just fell into it. I assume that most likely you did not studied to be a recruiter.
I also believe that there are opportunities more than what we have studied for. However, it can be a question when we are asked by recruiter like you, about our future goals or where we want to be in a number of years time. If we keep open to other opportunities, we will be seen as not focus in our goal.
What is your advice on this issue? |

May 29, 2008 03:01 AM CST | Hi Lynn, that was a lovely blog post and this reminded me of a particular recruiter who helped me get a job recently. This recruiter (working for spryjobs.com, India) was kind, helpful and was a perfect guide, redeeming my faith in recruiters in general. Kudos to recruiters like you and that recruiter at spryjobs.com! Thank you! |
