International Women's Day 2007

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of attending in an International Women’s Day celebration in Rewari, India. One of my project teams was invited to participate by an NGO that we are hoping to partner with on a Shared Voice to Access project. The organization runs about 100 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for women in nearly 50 villages in the state of Haryana, which is close to Delhi and brought these women together on March 8th to celebrate – women.

Accenture hosted International Women’s Day celebrations in more than 20 locations around the world. Many of these programs were webcasted and open to all employees worldwide. While I had to miss out on the celebrations at home, I was thrilled to participate in some way, (but this proved a bit challenging since mist of the program was conducted in Hindi)!

As I was wrapping up my work yesterday, I realized that I had spoken to people in the UK, the US, South Africa and India – all in a matter of two hours. It’s quite interesting how connected the world has become. And not only is it necessary to talk to people around the world, it’s also never been easier.

First, I spoke with a London-based colleague who will be arriving in India this weekend to work on an ADP assignment for the next four months. I provided her with background information about the project and the country, talked about what it’s like to work in India and made plans to meet her in person in a few days.
