Project Work

And all change again!

Well, of the two proposals I have been working on, the one that I thought I would start this week is on hold while the client has internal discussions at the end of the month, and the one I thought unlikely has started! And I even have a quick trip up to Leeds at the beginning of next week.

Got back from a couple of days mountain walking in Wales; sunburn, stiff legs, but no blisters for once, and some 35 miles walked and 10,000’ climbed over three days….and what a fab little B&B in Llan Ffestiniog….but I digress! Got back to a phone message asking if I was available to see the client on Wednesday. I did think that this would be to further negotiate the proposals that we had submitted, and to finalise the small print, but it actually turned out to be a detailed briefing as to the networks and infrastructure that we will be looking into.

Essentially, we have been asked to look at the resilience of the transmission infrastructure for a broadcaster, and to identify any single points of failure. The results that we obtain will be used to make the infrastructure more resilient (where possible, cost being a major factor), but will also help in terms of the identification of a strategy for any possible equipment moves.

It is a short project, and will be finished by mid-May, and all I have to do now is continue reading about transmission (amazing how much all my old Royal Corps of Signals training is coming back!), and to find an analyst who will assist on the project. Oh, and book the train ticket to Leeds.

It is so satisfying to put together a proposal, and to find that the client likes what you are suggesting, and wants to use the skills and experience that Accenture can offer. It is also really good to know that the skills that you do have in completely different areas can be transferred to a completely new industry, and that the fact that your skills are from a broader background is actually to your benefit!

Anyway, I am waffling! I have a stack of reading to do today, and then First Friday tomorrow, so a good opportunity to catch up with my Security colleagues, before making the most of my weekend, and then starting the project proper on Monday. Back next week to tell you how it is going!
