Website Development—2006 Following the end of its five year partnership with BMW, Williams F1 needed to develop and launch a new branded website experience, as well as a scalable, cost-effective, industry-strength website development capability that would support the team's plans for high performance. A key challenge was the lead time of only seven weeks to launch the site. It was agreed that the new site would communicate with the different stakeholder groups in distinct ways by creating three website sections based on individual templates—one each for fans, corporate partners and the media. In partnership with Avanade and Microsoft the site was delivered by the deadline and generated over 80,000 visits a month. To learn more about the project, please read the full case study. Enterprise Performance Management—2004-2005
Accenture worked with WilliamsF1 to help align its technical/track performance and design targets with financial planning and resource allocation. This involved establishing a clear methodology for resource allocation and budgeting, and combining this with a Performance Management Program that defined targets against which the team measured its on-track, financial and planning performance. Product Development Cycle—2002-2003 Accenture worked to a tight deadline with
WilliamsF1 to analyze the entire product development lifecycle
for the WilliamsF1 BMW FW25, the 2003 race car, and establish a
pilot that would serve as the model for production teams
throughout WilliamsF1. The pilot program was a huge success.
Employees reported having more satisfaction in their work, and
a clear connection to the value they add to the car's performance.

BMW WilliamsF1 Team Portal—2000-2001 Accenture worked with WilliamsF1 to create a new
website for the team. The new Web portal was designed to act as
a single point of access for WilliamsF1, the company, and the BMW
WilliamsF1 Team. The site was built through a network of alliances
and partnerships, with each partner's contribution being rewarded
by the marketing benefits of being featured on the site.
The BMW Alliance—1998
WilliamsF1's
expansion brought it into an exciting new alliance with BMW Motorsport: to
design and build a chassis for the famous Le Mans 24-hour race. WilliamsF1
turned to Accenture to help get the project underway at the firm's old site at
Didcot. While Accenture procured and installed the factory equipment,
WilliamsF1 and BMW engineers concentrated on the design and production of the
Le Mans challenger. The partnership was a success with victory in the Le Mans
24-hour race on 12-13 June 1999.
Business Strategy—1997 After years of expansion and success, WilliamsF1 needed to
find ways to sustain its competitive challenge into the future and support it
by exploiting its strength. Working with the WilliamsF1 team's senior
management, Accenture helped devise a five-year business strategy. Central to
this was the continuation of building the core F1 brand and its underlying
message of engineering excellence.
Manufacturing Systems—1996 In the second year of its business relationship
with WilliamsF1, Accenture implemented an enterprise-wide management system to
integrate all the manufacturing and design processes with the financial and
management side of the business. Accenture was able to install a
fully-functioning Enterprise Resources Planning system in the six-month window
allowed by the WilliamsF1 team's racing schedule. Normally a project of this
type would take between 12 and 18 months.
Factory Move—1995
The Williams team moved its Oxfordshire factory
from outmoded premises at Didcot to a state-of-the-art facility at Grove.
Accenture coordinated the move and designed the new factory, ensuring the team
moved with minimal disruption. The lack of disruption was demonstrated in the
first race of the season, when Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve brought the
FW18 home in first and second place respectively. The team went on to win both
the FIA Drivers' and Constructors' Championships.
