The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting gets under way this week in Davos, Switzerland. This year’s theme is around “Improving the State of the World: Rethink, Redesign, Rebuild” and the delegates gathered here will be engaging in dialogue about advancing solutions to the most critical challenges facing the world. Looking broadly, this year’s Annual Meeting provides a platform to take advantage of the current high level of awareness of today’s issues. The 2,500 global leaders gathering in Davos have an important agenda to come together to address a number of challenges head-on in a collaborative way, focused on outcomes. In fact, I’m delighted to participate in a panel discussion on “Technology for Society” to explore how new technologies can be leveraged to address issues such as development, education and healthcare delivery. We are at a point in our collective history where technology can help us achieve the goals that will better our economies and our lives. Ultimately we need governments to support creating a climate for businesses to innovate, invent, grow and thrive. This needs to be addressed within a long-term template for prosperity for all. The Annual Meeting is a unique opportunity for members of our leadership team to contribute to projects and initiatives that have broad societal and business implications. Through plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops and other networking opportunities, our delegates have the opportunity to discuss and debate thought-provoking topics. Davos is also a terrific way for me to meet with our clients and listen to what is on their minds. At this year’s Forum, Accenture is participating in several joint research projects with the World Economic Forum, as well as launching the fourth installment of our Multi-polar World research. This study—based on extensive research and input from more than 400 business leaders around the world—examines how organizations must prepare for the impact of new economic models that are being created by the convergence of new technology developments and the rise of the multi-polar world. For more than a decade, Accenture has been proud to participate in the Annual Meeting, as well as play a role as a Forum Strategic Partner. We recognize the important role of business in society and remain committed to engaging proactively with the communities in which we live and work. We are looking forward to an energizing and inspiring week ahead.
