Accenture people are a unique breed: intensely driven, yet caring ... highly individualistic, yet cooperative team players ... disciplined, and also creative. In short, they are excellent, dedicated volunteers. In 2006, almost one-third of Accenture's US people took an active role in company-sponsored volunteer events, totaling more than 138,500 hours.
Employees also have the opportunity to put their business and technical skills to use in developing nations through Accenture Development Partnerships. Program volunteers accept a 50 percent cut in salary and typically undertake assignments lasting between three and six months, in locations like Bangladesh, Kenya and Honduras. In 2006, 41 US Accenture people took part in Accenture Development Partnerships. Our people not only give abundantly of their time and talent, but they also give generous financial support. Our 2006 Employee Giving Campaign raised more than $3.9 million for member agencies of United Way, Earth Share, Global Impact and Community Health Charities. And through Aidmatrix, our employees donated nearly $76,000 to our Virtual Food Drive. Donors had the ability to choose between giving to hunger relief organizations in their local community, near a disaster site such as the Gulf Coast or to international charities such as the Global Foodbanking Network and the UN World Food Program. Hundreds of educational institutions have also benefited from the giving spirit of Accenture people. In 2006, Accenture and its employees donated more than $5 million to 486 US colleges and universities through the Accenture Foundation matching gift program. The donations help to fund scholarship programs and various other educational and technology-based initiatives to bring knowledge and opportunity to America's youth.
